Demystifying Runway AI Pricing: The 125-Credit Free Tier and Gen-4 Turbo Explored

Navigating the landscape of generative AI video tools can feel overwhelming, especially when trying to understand how credit systems work before committing funds. If you have been searching for details on site.runway.com/pricing, looking closely at the free tier, the 125-credit allocation, and the performance of Gen-4 Turbo, you are looking at the exact entry points that define the Runway experience.

The Anatomy of the Free Tier: A Test Drive, Not a Subscription

When signing up for a new account on Runway, many users expect a traditional monthly-refreshing free plan. However, Runway structures its free access as a one-time trial allowance rather than an ongoing subscription.

• Cost: $0
• Credit Allowance: 125 one-time credits
• Expiration: Credits do not expire, but they do not replenish monthly. Once your 125 credits are exhausted, you will need to upgrade to a paid tier to continue generating content.
• Best For: Testing the platform interface, evaluating output quality, and experimenting with basic features before deciding on a financial commitment.

Crucial Reality Check: The free tier is designed as a sample tray. It gives you a feel for how the workspace operates, but it is not intended to support an ongoing creative workflow or predictable video production schedule.

Gen-4 Turbo and Credit Burn Rates

To make the most of your initial 125 credits, understanding how different models consume your balance is essential. Gen-4 Turbo is engineered for speed and efficiency, making it a popular choice for rapid iteration and concept testing.

How the Math Works

• Consumption Rate: Gen-4 Turbo typically consumes 5 credits per second of generated video output.
• Total Capacity: Dividing your 125 free credits by the 5-credit-per-second burn rate yields a theoretical maximum of 25 seconds of total video production if dedicated entirely to Gen-4 Turbo.
